Cansa receives generous donation after successful Shavathon

A cheque to the value of R46 388 was recently presented to Cansa Polokwane by De Beers Diamond Ambassadors when staff members of the association visited Venetia Mine near Alldays.
Tarryn Genis, Senior Corporate Affairs Officer Communications of the mine said in a media release that De Beers raised these funds during the Venetia Mine annual Cansa Shavathon.
In order to assist Cansa a group of passionate employees volunteered their time to shave or spray their colleagues’ hair. Their effort and the contribution of more than 773 employees raised R23 194. De Beers matched the amount resulting in a total donation of R46 388.
Corné Marais, Office Manager at Cansa Polokwane said: “The company is doing extremely well in the Shavathon initiative and is very active with events like this. These funds are going to make a difference and I am glad that they helped us to boost our funds,” said Marais. She also thanked the Musina community for their contribution during Shavathons hosted in the community earlier.
Susan Nortje, Senior Project Planner at Venetia Mine and herself a cancer survivor who also lost both her parents to the disease, thanked Cansa for their exceptional work, particularly in assisting those members of the community who do not have access to medical aid.
Venetia Mine Corporate Affairs Manager, Josephine Pieters addressed the employee volunteers involved in the outreach and thanked them for their passion and energy. “We look forward to seeing how the funds raised by our Diamond Ambassadors at Venetia Mine will make a difference in our labour sending areas of Musina and Blouberg.”
