RAF to assist victims of fatal Apel Cross crash

The RAF has reached out to the families of the crash between a sedan and a taxi, which occured in the Sekhukhune district over Easter

LIMPOPO – In the aftermath of a crash between a taxi and a sedan in the Sekhukhune district on March 28, which claimed eight lives, Road Accident Fund (RAF) officials have set in motion claims for the bereaved families

The eight, who included two passengers on board the sedan were badly burnt when both vehicles burst into flames following the collision on the Makgatle-Mamphokgo road near Marble Hall.

RAF provincial manager, Christina Mthethwa, said they visited the bereaved families in the company of Fetakgomo mayor, Kukie Sefala, who expressed shock over the incident.

Sefala said the six who were on board the taxi were residents of several villages under the Fetakgomo Municipality.

Mthethwa also said RAF officials visited the six survivors being treated at Matlala Hospital at Tsimanyane near Marble Hall, also at Ga-Sekhukhune to assist them with the necessary claim processes.

Mthethwa said the processes were in motion to help with the burials, but as the victims were unidentifiable due to severe burns, they were still waiting for the DNA results before funds could be released.

RAF CEO, Eugene Watson, expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families and friends.

“Guided by the RAF Act, we are duty-bound to offer the requite support to the bereaved families in any way possible.”
