Incorrect billing still worrisome

Many residents still have concerns after receiving inaccurate bills for services.

POLOKWANE – Many residents still have concerns after receiving inaccurate bills for services.

This issue was highlighted during the last council meeting which took place last Tuesday.

The main concern from residents was that their utility bills did not reflect the correct readings as per their meters and that the municipality never came to take accurate readings and bill them accordingly.

According to the municipal financial report for February, it was found the main problem with regards to the incorrect readings was access to the meters, as well as many of the meters in question needed to be cleaned or the dials were not visible and needed to be replaced.

The municipality communicated these concerns to the relevant workshops and regular follow-ups have proven successful with a reduction of issues from 18 000 the previous month down to 13 075 currently and steadily decreasing.

According to the report, the accounts have been rectified and the consumption was evenly spread to correct any over or under billing.

It was found that interaction between the municipality and the elderly, disabled and lesser privileged residents who needed to travel long distances was a concern.

To try and overcome this challenge, the municipality compiled a team to specifically interact with these residents. The team attended to areas in Seshego Zone 1, 3 and 8, Mankweng, Sebayeng and Polokwane for two consecutive days.

Residents who are still experiencing issues with incorrect bills can contact the municipality on (015) 290 2000.
