Muni ‘standstill’ to be addressed today

As the Mogalakwena Municipality enters the fourth day of ‘standstill’ without any services rendered, the members from the Democratic Alliance (DA) sprang into action this morning (Thursday) in an attempt to clean the streets.

MOKOPANE – The municipal employees once again downed their tools on Friday after a council meeting, in which the issue of benchmarking would have been addressed, was postponed without any reason.

The employees are still demanding that the benchmarking of salaries according to municipalities with the same grading scale be implemented.

Members of the DA, along with the help from the community, rolled up their sleeves early this morning, to clean the rubbish that has been piling up in Thabo Mbeki Street due to the municipal ‘standstill’.

A council meeting will be held in the Lekalakala Chambers today at 14:00 where the situation will be addressed.

Percy Nketsi, a representative of the municipal workers says the outcome of the scheduled meeting will  determine the workers go back to work.

We will keep the community updated on the outcome of the council meeting.
