Let’s Can Hunger project a roaring success

The Pietersburg Lions Club, a non-profit organisation, did their bit for the community by collecting canned food for those less fortunate in their Let's Can Hunger campaign on Saturday, 28 May.

POLOKWANE – To make things a little more interesting this year, the group split into two groups, namely women and men.

The women’s group were stationed at Platinum Park Spar with owner, Riaan Piek, on their team and the men were at Thornhill Spar with manager, Christo Vlok, on their team.

Both teams tried their best to convince Spar customers to donate canned food to charity and while both teams spied on each other to see whose strategy was better, everyone was concerned with collecting as much food as possible.

“Some people really went out of their way buying things like toothbrushes and shampoo. We want to thank everyone for their contribution.

“This is the most products we have ever collected and we know a lot of people will be thankful,” said Dalize Venter, Pietersburg Lions Club member.

The total value of the products collected amounts to R24 000. The men’s team won the day’s challenge.

“We just want to thank both Spar stores for assisting us as well as residents for their contribution,” said Paul Venter, President of Pietersburg Lions Club.
