Despite a hectic schedule, Vodacom Limpopo Managing Executive Chris Lazarus is a hands-on dad who is devoted to his two sons.
He describes Cameron, a third-year student working towards becoming a chartered accountant, as very competitive and having an affinity for various sporting activities. Michael, who is in matric, is expected to follow a future career in the field of technology. Cycling, squash and travelling together since a young age count among the things they share with their dad.
Commenting on fatherhood
“I have absolutely enjoyed fatherhood, and did not struggle with any aspects of it. My boys are great guys and did not present us with any difficult challenges. We have been hanging out since they were born. We have been very involved, almost never missing any activity in their lives. As Cameron was the sportier one, I attended almost all his soccer games.”
Highlights of times together
“We have so many memories. The times we have spent in so many spectacular places around the world never be forgotten.”
Time spent together
“We spend a fair amount of time together. This year has been difficult given that Michael is focusing on matric.”
Involvement in kids’ lives
I would like to think that I have never been an absent father. I think I could have been harder with them when it comes to school but then again we don’t like causing stress as we believe that whilst school is important it is but one of the ingredients for a great life.

“I cannot recall this being an issue. Work is not something you go to and because of technology its what you do, hence I was able to be productive. My wife also held a hectic career travelling but there was a lot of support. Between us we were there for them. I think we once had to call in their grandparents when my wife and I had to travel overseas. When the kids were in primary school I recall my wife and I chatting to them about life, money versus having great times, so they understood that we needed to make sacrifices if we wanted the finer things in life. They were already used to things so they were cool with us needing to invest in work.”
