Joyful learners of Mitchell House witnessed the official opening of four new classrooms in the Intermediate Phase at the school recently.
The ceremony started in the school theatre where Principal Andrew Cook addressed the audience consisting of learners, staff members, members of the Board of Governors and the professional team that was responsible for the management of the project.
Cook said that the opening of the classrooms was the culmination of years of planning, strategising and commitment and took the opportunity to thank every person that provided input to bring the project to such a successful conclusion. He explained that the growing of the student numbers and the addition of more subjects necessitated expansion of facilities and that the Board of Governors supported the addition of more classrooms. “I have to thank the Board of Governors for their recognition of our need to grow and for their insistence on the very best for our learners,” said Cook.
“The appointed architect and building contractor assembled the most experienced and professional team of consultants available in Polokwane. They ran a tight ship and at no stage did I feel that any of our pupils were in any kind of danger and teaching could continue as usual,” Cook informed.
Cook alluded to the fact that 24 schools were burnt down in the province. “I hope that all who teach and all who learn at this school will remember how privileged we are,” Cook reminded the pupils.
The guests then moved on to the new classrooms where the ribbon was cut by Cook and Maylene Broderick, Chairperson of the Board of Governors. Cook in prayer dedicated the new facilities to Almighty God. “In dedicating this building to You, we set it apart for sacred purposes so that Your precious children may be granted the opportunity to grow in knowledge, friendship and integrity, and we give it up wholly and earnestly so that Your divine plan may be realised through all who learn, play, teach and relate in these rooms,” Cook concluded.
