An energetic group of young people gathered in the Edgars Court of Mall of the North on Saturday to dance their hearts out for Imke Geldenhuys.
Imke (3) was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma, a high-risk cancer which is difficult to diagnose and affects only one in every 600 children in the world. The cancer grows mainly on the adrenal glands of children and then spreads to the rest of their bodies.
The brave little girl has to undergo treatment in Australia to beat this disease and her parents have to raise R6 million before the specialised immunotherapy can be done.
Mall of the North, in conjunction with Virgin Active, organised an hour of dance fun with the gym’s Just Dance instructors where participants had to pay R100 each to take part. Dion Wired’s LG Limpopo Representative, John Maduna provided the booming sound system that helped kicked cold muscles into gear.
With prizes sponsored by Southgate Lodge, Emcare, Ocean Basket Mall of the North, Coca-Cola Fortune Polokwane, Cell C, Game Mall of the North, Sasol Bendor, Woodmore Polokwane, René’s Beauty Spot, Vision Works Mall of the North, and Memryblox, the dancers had more than enough motivation to move their bodies to the beat.
While the dancers did their thing, characters from the movie ‘Frozen’ moved among the bystanders and in the mall, shaking tin cans for spare change as a fundraising initiative for Imke.
Afterwards the dancers had photographs taken with ‘Queen Elsa’, her little sister ‘Anna’, the brave ‘Christoph’, and the loveable snowman, ‘Olaf”. The ‘Frozen’ characters were part of the fun because this is Imke’s favourite movie.
According to Mall of the North Marketing Manager, Mari Delport, they managed to raise R7 120 for the Imke Geldenhuys fund. She encourages others to help Imke by launching their own initiatives or by making a financial contribution to the fund.
