Mall of the North joined hands with tenants Panarottis and Game as well as Awesome Events to be of service to the residents of Pholosho Multipurpose Centre in Kgohloane outside Polokwane in celebration of Mandela Day on Monday.
Mall of the North Marketing Manager Mari Delport said they identified Pholosho Multipurpose Centre as beneficiary of their Mandela Day commemoration. The centre provides essential services to the community of Kgohloane. “With the help and partnership of our tenants we managed to collect clothes, fresh produce, cool drinks and sweets to treat residents with and decided to spend some valuable time with them,” Delport said.
A team from Awesome Events got down and dirty to give the centre’s playroom a new look with a layer of paint. Panarottis saw to it that residents get a delicious lunch while Game provided bags of oranges and potatoes.
Seshego Police also joined in the celebrations and an informative session was held with residents on the dangers of the street drug nyaope.
“Nyaope is one of the biggest challenges in the area and especially among the youth. The centre was established in 2001 by Maggie Ngoasheng but the need for essential services forced the former day care and then drop-in centre to become a multipurpose centre,” centre Administrator Tebogo Lekganyane said.
He added that the centre does not receive any grants from government and that they cater for the youth, elderly and disabled. “We embark on programmes of youth and skills development to keep children after school off the streets and away from drugs. We also invite motivational speakers on a regular basis to address residents,” he said.
Ngoasheng extended her gratitude towards Mall of the North for opening their hearts and hands in making Pholosho Multipurpose Centre a better place.
