As a family with over 48 years of business experience in Polokwane, the father and son team of Frank Hislop Sr and Frank Hislop Jr both state unequivocally that their faith in the city’s economy spurred them on to take on an ambitious overhaul of their service station and mini shopping centre on the corner or Marshall and Webster Streets.
Frank Sr built the service station in 1995 and his son completed a BCom Entrepreneurship degree at the University of Pretoria with the express goal of joining his father in the family business.
“Every person who works for this company is like family to us. Some of our employees have been working with us for 20 years or longer and we all take care of each other like a family should,” says Hislop Sr.
Elegant Petrostop in Polokwane
The service station was associated with one of the major oil companies in South Africa for 20 years, but the Hislops decided to change to Elegant Fuel as this company gives them the opportunity to offer their clients 10 ppm and 50 ppm diesel on every fuelling island on the forecourt at very affordable prices.
“There are three things to look at when dealing with petrol and diesel: quality, affordability and availability. Elegant Fuel gives us the opportunity to offer the best Sasol products at very competitive prices at all times. Due to clients’ repeated requests, we also decided to put diesel pumps on every fuelling island,” says Hislop Sr.

New services at Elegant Petrostop
With the change to being an Elegant Petrostop, the building and its surrounds was also upgraded and four exciting new additions added to the Smart Stop shop connected with the Elegant Fuel brand.
The deli and bakery has been substantially expanded and Leatitia Thomas joined the Elegant Petrostop team as Deli and Bakery Manager.
Well qualified and trained in the food industry, she brings a breath of fresh air to the already popular feature of this service station.
This division of Elegant Petrostop bakes bread, buns and other delicacies 24 hours of the day, which means that their fare is always as fresh as can be. They also bake on order and customers are welcome to call the shop on 015 295 2915 to place their orders.
Thomas has also put her expertise to good use by designing healthy, ready packed, fresh lunches for school children. These can also be pre-ordered, but are also available for purchase from 04:00 every

day.
Elegant Petrostop also boasts a magnificent ice making plant that will ensure that no customer will run out of ice when the summer heat beats down on the city. Customers can order ice in bulk for functions when needed. A brand new bottled water supply unit was added to the services offered at Elegant Petrostop.
“We offer filtered water at 95 c/? when customers bring their own containers. Our ready bottled water is available at R120 for 10 ? and R190 for 25 ?. Soon we will also have 500 m? bottles of water available,” says Hislop Jr.
Customers can now also buy fresh flowers every day. The fresh cut flowers are picked up directly from the flower market twice a week to ensure top quality and freshness at very competitive prices.
Soon Elegant Petrostop will also have gas available using an interchangeable swapping system and the shop is selling some Vleislapa products too.

Development of the property
With the inception of the first Elegant Petrostop in Polokwane, the property surrounding the service station will also be revamped.
“We are proud to welcome Sannelie Oosthuizen of Property Boutique, Mboya Simango of PostNet and Sophia Hislop of Uniclox to our premises. Existing tenants Vleislapa, Marshallstraat owned by Marius and Elaine van Tonder, and Amigos Liquor, owned by Driaan Opperman will be substantially expanded and we built ample parking to ensure that customers will have easy access to all of these businesses,” Hislop Sr said.
Secret of success
Both father and son agree that they would never have achieved the success that they did if it was not for the continued support of the community.
“We want to thank every customer who ever made use of our services and who took the time to get to know us and who stood by us through thick and thin. We also want to thank our tenants for their encouragement and support,” Hislop Jr said.
“Our success also lies in the fact that we are unyielding when it comes to the quality of our fuel products and the superiority and freshness of every product on our shelves. We pay attention to detail and sell-by-dates in the Smart Stop shop are constantly watched to ensure that only the freshest of products are available to our clients,” Hislop Sr adds.
