A brand new house for family of six
"Housing is one of the basic needs which is at the forefront of government's agenda"
LIMPOPO – These were the words of the MEC for Co-operative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), Makoma Makhurupetje, during the hand-over of a new house to the Ngobeni family in Sasekani village in Tzaneen recently.
Nyanisi Sarah Ngobeni (73) shared a delapidated house with her five dependents.
The family’s plight came to the MEC’s attention after an anonymous caller on a radio show challenged government to provide them with a house.
Prior to receiving their new house, some of the family members lived in a leaky tent given to them by the Disaster Management Division of the Greater Tzaneen and Mopani Municipalities as a form of alternative shelter. The new house came fully furnished which was welcomed by the family as they are dependent solely on Ngobeni’s pension grant and child support grant.
Ngobeni could not hold back tears of joy for the great gift from the government after suffering and living in destitute conditions for several years.
Makhurupetje said the house was built as part of the CoGHSTA Rural Housing Programme with which at least 30 houses were built for residents of Sasekani in the past financial year, and indicated that 20 more houses would be built this year.
