Staff fed up with inadequate facilities

Social workers who operate in mobile offices situated in Buite Clinic have accused the Department of Social Development of maltreatment and negligence.

POLOKWANE – One of the social workers, who wishes to remain anonymous for fear of victimisation, said the mobile offices are not accessible for disabled people, and patients are forced to stay out of the premises; exposed to harsh weather conditions as there is no proper waiting area.

They also claim that the mobile offices are situated next to sewage and they can’t deal with the smell anymore, especially in the summer season.

The social workers said four of them have to share an office and this causes a problem with patients due to a lack of privacy. He said they have complained to department of social development to no avail.

Department Spokesperson, Adele van der Linde, confirmed that they were aware of the situation, and were still in talks with the Polokwane Municipality to get proper offices, which are accessible to all.
