PhalaPhala FM to broadcasted from SABC studios in Thohoyandou
"Because of this venture, Vhembe communities will have news broadcasted from a local station. It will also promote economic growth in the area," said MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Jerry Ndou
LIMPOPO – MEC for Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure, Jerry Ndou said the broadcast of a number of Phalaphala FM programmes from the SABC station in Thohoyandou will boost service delivery in the Vhembe region as people will have up-to-date information about what is going on in their area and they will be able to call in to the station to voice their concerns on issues that affect the community at large.
“Because of this venture, Vhembe communities will have news broadcasted from a local station. It will also promote economic growth in the area,” said Ndou.
Ndou was joined by SABC Chief Operating Officer (COO), Hlaudi Motsoeneng, Chairperson of the SABC Board, Professor Mmbulaheni Maguvhe, Vhavenda King, Toni Mphephu Ramabulana and a number of traditional leaders at Phalaphala FM’s official welcoming ceremony at the SABC studios in Thohoyandou recently.
In June this year, Motsoeneng announced the SABC would play host to a few of the Vhembe station’s programmes at their Thohoyandou station.
Vhavenda King, Toni Mphephu Ramabulana praised the management of the SABC for their efforts to relocate Phalaphala FM to an area where the people will be able to benefit from the broadcast.
“We hope the Vhavenda community will benefit from this move,” said Mphephu. He also warned the community not to damage the building in protests.
Motsoeneng urged the community to produce local content in order to promote the Tshivenda culture. “We appeal to the Vhavenda people, take this opportunity to produce dramas and soapies in Tshivenda that will be broadcast on the station. Be proud of your culture and customs and empower each other,” Motsoeneng said.
PhalaPhala FM Station Manager, Freddy Sadiki said the station is celebrating 51 years in the business this year and they look forward to working with the Vhembe community for many years to come.
