Generous donation of school shoes

Learners from Mutangwa-Manugu Primary School in Ha-Mutsha village outside Thohoyandou recently received new pairs of school shoes.

LIMPOPO -Old Mutual donated 22 pairs of shoes to learners who previously attended school barefoot because they could not afford to buy shoes.

Principal Tendani Mugivhi says he is happy that these learners no longer have to brave the winter cold barefoot.

“This donation will encourage our learners to take their education seriously.

“Many of them are orphans who depend on donations in order to buy school supplies and many of our learners’ parents cannot afford to buy school uniforms for their children because they are unemployed,” Mugivhi explains.

“I challenge other companies to follow the example of Old Mutual and reach out to disadvantaged children in communities in our area and beyond,” he concluded.

Old Mutual Thohoyandou Sales Manager, Philip Mudau says he was moved to make a change in these children’s lives when he paid a visit to the school recently and came across children who attended school barefoot.

“I was brought to tears at the sight of these vulnerable children. The fact that they continued to come to school in spite of their situation humbled me and I knew then that I had to approach my superiors and get the company involved in doing something good in the community,” he explains.

“This is our way of encouraging children to stay in school. They are our future leaders and it is our duty to take care of them,” says Mudau.
