Limpopo villages left waterless for 3 months

We need a temporary solution that we can rely on while you fix our pipeline - resident

LIMPOPO – The community of N’wadzekudzeku and Shivulani village appealed to Greater Giyani Mayor Pat Hlungwani to help them with water since the pipeline supplying the villages of water seems to have been intercepted by illegal connections, which has resulted in a zero water supply.

“We have not had water for three months now. We understand that the contractors are fixing the pipelines, but what do we cook with now,” asked Thompson Baloyi who spoke on behalf of development in the two villages during the public participation event last Friday.

He appealed to the mayor to send water tankers to the area: “We need a temporary solution that we can rely on while you fix our pipeline”.

In response, Hlunwani assured the community that he would personally ensure there was water in the two villages. He said the problem was being addressed.

“I will come here personally with a team that deals with water infrastructure to assess the reason why you’re not receiving water on your pipeline,” he continued assuring the community.

The area is a highly contested area dominated by three political parties.

Ahead of last week’s Local Government Election, Hlungwani appealed to villagers to vote for the ANC despite the water services being halted.
