Lim man drowns in Mozambique: family raising funds to continue search for son’s body

"Our plan is to raise enough money so divers can search for at least two days," said family spokesperson, Pastor Mulalo Tshikalange. Donations welcome

LIMPOPO – The Malivhoho family, whose son recently drowned in Mozambique while on honeymoon, plans to raise more than R50 000 for a private diving company to continue searching for the body.

Livhuwani Malivhoho and his wife, Vhutshilo, were swimming at Zabora Beach, north of Maputo last Thursday, when Malivhoho disappeared. It is believed he had drowned.

The Malivhoho family spokesperson, Pastor Mulalo Tshikalange, said they were devastated upon hearing the news of Malivhoho’s drowning.

“The South African Embassy in Mozambique arranged for divers to search for the body but without any luck,” he said.

A private diving company costs R25 000 per day. “Our plan is to raise enough money so divers can search for at least two days,” said Tshikalange.

He said Malivhoho’s loss is a blow to the family, as he was the breadwinner. “He paid his brother and sister’s tuition fees and started to build a house for his parents when the tragedy occurred.”

Tshikalange said they are thankful for the work done by the South African Embassy and Limpopo government. Local Government Spokesperson, Phuti Seloba, said the MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba and other officers visited the family to pay their respects.

Spokesperson for the Limpopo Department of Health, Derrick Kganyago, said Ramathuba together with the MEC for Social Development, Joyce Mashamba, have visited the family last week as a token of support on the side of government. “Before their visit, social workers were there to offer counseling to the family in this traumatic situation,” said Kganyago.

International Relation Spokesperson, Nelson Kgwete, said divers are still searching but there is no progress. “We will keep everyone updated if there are any new developments in the case,” said Kgwete.
