DSTV iRock Battle for Stage entries open

Local artists have an opportunity to win a spot as one of the opening acts for this year’s music festival as Polokwane hosts the DStv iRock Music Festival on 24 September.
Artists and bands are invited to enter the Battle for the Stage competition in one of three categories – Hip Hop to open for Emtee at the DStv iRock pre-party on 23 September, any music genre to open the DStv iRock Main Stage at the Polokwane Rugby Fields on 24 September and Comedy to open for the brand new addition to the weekend fun, the DStv iRock Comedy Festival on 22 September.
“The DStv iRock Battle for the Stage competition is an opportunity for previously undiscovered talent in the Limpopo region. We have seen the formula work with talent search reality shows like Idols SA and The Voice SA and for the past three years talented musicians like Calandray and DJ Gao Deep have successfully opened the DStv iRock Limpopo music festival and launched their careers Nomsa Chabeli Mazibuko, General Manager of Marketing at MultiChoice said.
“In addition to the music events, we have added a comedy night, opening the festival to a brand new audience and a whole new pool of talent.”
Interested parties must record a one-minute long digital clip of their performance. Artists can upload the clip on their Facebook pages and tag @DStv #DStviRock. Entrants can also send videos with the keyword DStviRock via WhatsApp on 072 663 4621, or SMS to 44899. Each SMS costs R1,50. Finalists will be required to provide a clear, high resolution image and short biography.
The prize includes access to the DStv iRock VIP area, where the winner will get a chance to interact with media, celebrities, and other performers as well as an opportunity to be featured on V-Entertainment and a R10 000 cash prize.
The competition closes at midnight on 9 September. The winner will be announced on the DSTV website and the DStv iRock Facebook page.
Gates at the Polokwane Rugby Fields will open at 12:00 on 24 September. General Access tickets are selling at R200 and VIP tickets range from R750 to R1 000. VVIP tickets are also available at R2 000.
