POLOKWANE – The age-old method is an ideal way to learn how to protect yourself while learning discipline at the same time. This was one of the reasons Wing Chun Kung Fu instructor, Jannie Calitz, hosted a workshop on this form of martial arts recently.
The two-day event took place at Piet Hugo Primary School in Ladanna and some of Calitz’s students assisted him with his demonstrations.
“We have two workshops once a term, one in Polokwane and the other in Johannesburg. The purpose of these workshops is to allow the students to acquire more knowledge and skills, it also serves as an opportunity to grade them.”
According to Calitz, when the children attend the workshops, it helps them improve their skills and advance faster than they would with only regular training.
“I like the workshops, we learn a lot about self-defence,” one of the learners, Ruben van Zyl said. “I learn new things everytime I attend the workshops,” Jean Mackie, another learner, said.
