Bypass construction going well – SANRAL
Motorists travelling from Pretoria to Polokwane and Tzaneen will no longer have to worry about driving on a single-lane road following a major road upgrade at the N1, east of Polokwane.
POLOKWANE – This project, which is sanctioned by the South African National Road Agency (SANRAL), began in December last year and is expected to be completed in three years’ time.
According to the Project Manager, Alan Agaienz of SANRAL, the upgrade will consist of several bridges that will connect the road to the Tzaneen interchange.
“We are doubling the road surface up until Tzaneen for added convenience and safety for motorists. This is the second phase of the project, phase one was completed in 2010 for the FIFA World Cup games,” he said.
He added the length of road is 14,9 km and the project will cost R650 million.
He said so far SANRAL is satisfied with the progress made and the work done by the contractor and they believe the project will be completed on time.
