Limpopo Gambling Board (LGB) in their quest to curb the plague of illegal gambling destroyed 29 illegal roulette machines in Polokwane last Thursday.
The machines were found in spaza shops, shops, general dealers, restaurants and liquor outlets in the remote areas of the province.
LGB Senior Manager Law Enforcement, Philly Masogo said they were happy with the progress they have made in curbing the rife usage of illegal machines in the province. “In February we destroyed 26 illegal machines and we will continue looking for these illegal machines. We have already found the source that brings these illegal machines in the province and were they have been assembled. We want stop these activities because these people are making easy money and they don’t pay tax,” Masogo said.
He pointed out that usage of illegal gambling machines is a big problem in the province especially in the rural areas. “We also have illegal gambling outlets disguised as internet cafes and that also causes a headache for us. They are disguised as internet cafes but when you enter the premises the computers are actually used for online gambling purposes,” Masogo said.
