SALGA elects its new committee
The South African Local Government Association (Salga) held its Limpopo conference at the The Ranch Resort yesterday (Wednesday).
POLOKWANE – Mayor Thembi Nkadimeng was elected as the new Salga Limpopo PEC Chairperson.
As Deputy Chairperson was elected Stan Ramaila, Moris Mataboge and John Mpe.
Additional members are Julia Mathebe, Jack Marlo, Kromwel Ntlemo, Nkakareng Rakgwale, Joyce Pila, Sophy Makhubela and NEC Member, Florence Radzilane.
Former Salga Provincial Chairperson, Shoes Magabe, earlier told Review Salga’s aim is to train and skill councillors on issues of local government and to give support to municipalities on issues of service delivery and good performance.
Delivering his speech after the election, the premier, Stanley Mathabatha outlined the new committee’s mandate.
Among these was to address the service delivery backlog in terms of water, roads and sanitation; addressing poor communication channels between councillors and their constituents; addressing the challenges of a political and administrative nature; to tackle rampant fraud and corruption and dealing decisively with violent service delivery protests.
He further said the appointment of competent and qualified people was paramount and attending to matters of resources and financial management constraints was also a key priority.
