POLOKWANE – Seripa High School’s top achievers were delighted when they received trophies and certificates of appreciation during the school’s awards ceremony last Tuesday. the school is situated in Ga-Tibi in Senwabarwana, outside Polokwane.

This was the first time the school hosted the award ceremony and hope to make it an annual event.

Among the award winners were Lenox Chidi (17) and Lerato Sekoaila (17) who were the top achievers in Gr 11 top learners in mathematics and physical sciences.

Chidi, who wants to study mechanical engineering after completing high school, said his award is the result of the hard work he put into his studies.

“Working on previous question papers is a crucial tool that prepares me for my tests and examinations. Hard work has its rewards. Education is the  weapon against poverty and I believe with it I can better my future,” said Chidi.

He explained that he sometimes encounters challenges, but through the support he receives from his teachers and classmates, everything becomes easier and more interesting.

“I enjoy fixing broken cars and I have gained much experience with the support I receive from the local mechanics,” he proudly said.

Sekoaila scooped the award for top science learner award and said she wants to study clinical psychology at Wits University.

“I have an uncle who is a clinical psychologist, and I fell in love with the profession after he told me what his work entails, and I later realised I have all the characteristics to be a good clinical psychologist,” she explained.

School principal, Louis Matlapu, said through these awards they want to encourage the learners to study hard.

The school’s Gr 12 awards ceremony will be held at Bolivia Lodge during the Gr 12 farewell dance.
