The Protea Hotel Ranch Resort Charity Day is definitely a highlight on the annual calendar and was once again hosted in the form of a traditional high tea and golf day on Saturday.
While approximately 70 golfers competed in a game with a twist, women enjoyed the legendary high tea at the main hotel with mouth watering delicacies and delicious cakes washed down by ice cold Miss Molly sparkling wine. Most eats were sponsored by The Ranch and Park Hotel Mokopane.
The Ranch Owner Tom Shearer addressed women explaining that every year on his wife Vicky’s birthday, which is also their wedding anniversary, they and The Ranch want to give back to the community. Vicky celebrated her 61st birthday and their 39th wedding anniversary.

This year saw the seventh Charity Day and women had the opportunity to purchase plants sponsored by local nurseries followed by a tour through Vicky’s rose garden in full bloom.
On the golf course players were firstly treated to delicious hamburgers and beer before taking to the golf course. Sport, Recreation and Team Building Manager at The Ranch, Nico Myburgh said the game offered a twist at some of the holes such as teeing off with your left hand. There was also a fishing competition and a target range where players could add some points when hitting specific targets.
The team from PG Glass scored 28 points on the target range ensuring them the win of the day.
Almost 150 people gathered at the swimming pool area in the afternoon to participate in the customary auction where people were given the opportunity to bet on among others a spit braai pig, an impala, lamb, rugby jerseys, various wine selections, jewellery, leather bags and spirits.
“We are still collecting all the money raised on the day but we are expecting in excess of R180 000. All the proceeds will be distributed among charity organisations in Limpopo,” Vicky said. She thanked all people involved for their support of the initiative as well as staff members of The Ranch for their hard work and excellent service.
