Peter Guthrie takes helm at Meropa

Peter Guthrie recently took the position of General Manager at Sun International’s Meropa Casino & Entertainment World after a successful tenure at the Flamingo Casino in Kimberley.
For Guthrie, it has been something of a homecoming to be back at Meropa where he was the Slots Manager from 2007 to 2010, according to a recent media release from Meropa.
He brings a wealth of experience, having worked in the dynamic hospitality and gaming industry for over 26 years. Starting off his career at Sun International’s Wild Coast Sun, Guthrie has moved around in the company and worked at various units including the group’s iconic Sun City in the North West Province.
Over the years, he has become known for his professionalism, approachableness and innovative ways of encouraging, motivating, uplifting and developing personnel.
“Our employees are our ambassadors. They are the first line of contact with our customers and play a crucial role in the experience our customers have when they visit us. It is important to me to allow personnel space to innovate and share information. This instils passion and allows for the team to grow,” says Guthrie.
Guthrie enjoys interaction with the diverse groups of people visiting Meropa and has already become a familiar face to many of them. Customer service excellence is a key focus for him and he welcomes ideas from employees to improve the customer experience, and values feedback from visitors.
Guthrie is enjoying being back at Meropa where there are some exciting changes underway.
“We have some big changes planned for the complex in the future. We will be expanding the complex by opening a hotel in 2017 and enhancing our existing facilities. We are also refreshing the food and beverage landscape at Meropa and placing renewed emphasis on improving the customer experience on the whole,” he says.
Guthrie is married with two sons and enjoys spending time with his family during his downtime. He enjoys mountain biking, deep sea fishing, rock and surf fishing; as well as other outdoor activities. He is an avid collector of coins, stamps and notes. He also makes a point of visiting the coast at least once a year.
