Peter Mokaba Stadium will host the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier match between Bafana Bafana and Senegal on 12 November.
The last time Bafana Bafana played at the local stadium was in October 2014 when they faced Congo in an African Cup of Nations (Caf) qualifier.
Community Development Director at Polokwane Municipality, Ndavhe Ramakuela said they are excited host the World Cup qualifier match and look forward to a great atmosphere. “It is a good opportunity for the city,” he said and added that during previous sporting events the province has proven its ability as host.
Spokesperson for Limpopo Tourism Agency (LTA) Mike Tauatsoala said high profile matches boost the tourism profile of the province. LTA looks forward to welcoming all the supporters who will be travelling with the teams. “As the host province we are elated about the decision for our province to host the qualifier,” Tauatsoala said.
Bafana Bafana Spokesperson, Matlhomola Morake said the match is scheduled to start at 15:00 and tickets will be available at all Computicket counters, Shoprite and Checkers for R60.
Head of Communications at South African Football Association Dominic Chimhavi said the national team has to beat Senegal in order to qualify for the Fifa World Cup. “We don’t have a bad record against them. We drew against them in the Caf matches and we beat them 1-0 in the Nelson Mandela Challenge at Orlando Stadium last year and I think we will do well on 12 November,” Chimhavi said.
