Awards, medals and certificates galore

Tlakale Mashashane Commercial High School Gr 12 top learner, Mitchell Manamela (17) scooped the best learner award at the school's annual awards-giving ceremony in Ga-Mashashane outside Polokwane.

POLOKWANE -Upon receiving the award she said she wants to pursue her career in physiotherapy at the University of the Witwatersrand next year.

The ceremony is an annual event that recognises the remarkable achievements of matric learners at the school. During the ceremony fifteen Gr 12 learners received awards, medals and certificates of appreciation for their academic achievements.

Manamela (17), who wants to study physiotherapy, says she feels happy that her hard work has finally paid off and that motivates her a lot.

“I love working with bones and that has been my dream from childhood. Hard work never killed anyone. I always focus fully on my studies to ensure that I pass,” says Manamela.

“Working on previous question papers is also a crucial tool which prepares me to face the tests and examinations,” she says.

Another learner, Given Matlala (17), who wants to study Electrical Engineering at the University of Johannesburg, says he believe that the only way to achieve your dreams is to listen and to respect your educator, no matter how difficult the subjects are.

“My secret was that I managed my time well. I did not spend my afternoons roaming the streets, instead I focused on my books and formed a study group with my friends,” says Matlala.

“It is very important for one to understand the topics when studying. I sometimes came across challenges but with the support of my teachers found it easy,” he says.

School Principal, Edwin Rammutla, encouraged the learners to work hard because education is the only weapon to fight poverty.

“Through these awards we want to encourage the learners to study hard. We urge them to work with us as we continue to support them.

“Let us motivate and support our learners. Thanks go to the brave learners who managed to make it this far. I believe with spirit as a school we can produce better results than previous years,” he said.
