Childline Limpopo ready to help despite allegations
Despite troubling allegations and the organisation being without a director since April, Childline Limpopo assures the community they are still capable of helping those in need.
POLOKWANE – The previous Director for Childline Limpopo, Pricila Mulaudzi, resigned from her position in April this year following an investigation Childline SA was conducting to charge her with misconduct among others.
Childline SA National Executive Officer, Dumisile Nala, told Review that there had been reports that the organisation was not paying their employees. These reports, Nala explained, were incorrect.
“During the process of the investigation, Mulaudzi resigned and took the organisation to the CCMA, alleging constructive dismissal. During the conciliation process at the CCMA, the parties agreed that it was best for the organisation and Mulaudzi to part ways and a settlement agreement was reached to this effect. Although there were concerns of mismanagement and incompetence, the information gathered was not sufficient to follow the criminal route,” Nala explained.
Subsequent to this, the board of Childline Limpopo resigned and the office was placed under the administration of Childline SA.
To this end, Childline SA has ensured the key activities of the organisation are effectively implemented, including the 24-hour toll free helpline and the prevention and early intervention services to children, families and communities. Nala said a Childline Limpopo Coordinator has been appointed and she commenced employment on 1 November. Her duties include management of staff, ensuring effective service delivery, stakeholder engagement and recruitment of new board members.
Childline is a NGO which aims to protect children from all forms of violence and create a culture that respects and promotes children’s rights in South Africa. Childline’s operations are provincially based and rendered through its nine provincial offices. The national office is based in Durban and provides support and guidance to the provincial offices to ensure effective governance, service delivery and accountability.
“We would like to assure the community that although we experience some challenges within the organisation, through the support of Childline SA, our office in Limpopo remains functional and continues to render core services to the community. A clear plan is in place to strengthen service provision, secure ongoing resources to ensure service delivery and re-establish solid governance structures through recruitment of appropriate and effective board members,” Nala concluded.
