‘Dress a baby’ project needs more support

Local hip-hop artist Mopedy says the foundation hopes to hand over clothes to more than 300 households by the end of the year

POLOKWANE – A local hip-hop artist, Mopedy, is doing his bit for the community by heading a foundation in aid of children under the age of five.
Help-Us-Dress-A-Baby is a non-profit initiative aimed at assisting disadvantaged families with new or second-hand clothing for children from birth to five years of age.
“We have collected clothes for 100 babies so far and we are looking forward to even more support,” he says. According to Mopedy his record label, Verbal Silence, and volunteers will collect clothing from donors to assist at least 300 children by the end of this year.
“The reality is many other African countries’ citizens are immigrating to South Africa and most of them come here without money, jobs or clothing, and by donating these clothes we believe we can make the nation better. We are going to visit five identified child-headed families which were identified through the help of home-based care groups in the Capricorn District to hand over clothes,” he says.
Mopedy says the Help-Us-Dress-A-Baby launch which will take place on 26 November at the MJ Gateway Lodge in Dalmada outside Polokwane which will serve as a platform for more people to make donations. “We are going to take this opportunity to inform people about the cause, to raise funds and engage with those who are already participating in the campaign.
“The last leg of Help-Us-Dress-A-Baby campaign is the handing over of all donations to a church in Disteneng where clothes will be distributed to beneficiaries in the area,” he explains.

He further says donations of new and secondhand clothes are welcome.
