Police deter street crime in Mokpane

While police members were carrying out their weekly operations they made 24 arrests for various cases.

Mokopane SAPS made several arrests over the weekend for various cases including drug trafficking, shoplifting, public drinking, illegal immigrants, housebreaking and theft.

Some of the arrested suspects paid admission of guilt, while eight others appeared in court on Monday, and will remain in custody until  their next court appearance on 15 March.

The police are concerned about the high crime rate, especially in Mokopane, as well as the attacks and robberies in the community.

Advice on how to be crime-conscious:
• Never walk alone and do not talk to strangers.
•Be on the lookout for suspicious-looking cars or people.
.• Do not walk alone at night but rather in groups.
• Always let someone know where you are going and how long you will be away.
• Do not advertise your locations and movements on social media. Criminals also have access to social media.
• Know all emergency numbers.
• Avoid over-crowded streets where you cannot walk properly and criminals find it easy to pick pockets.
• Never walk and text or talk on your cellphone in public places.
• Avoid displaying valuables such as  laptops, cellphones and handbags where criminals can see them.
• Always keep vehicle doors locked and windows closed, especially in the main streets.
