It is alleged at around 22:00 on Tuesday (25 April) night, a group of people barricaded roads along the Makhushane cross, to which police reacted swiftly.

Police spokesperson Lt Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe says on arrival, police found four trucks belonging to different companies set on fire and completely burnt.

“Seven other trucks were safely escorted out of the parking depot to the Palabora Mining Company mine.”

Cases of malicious damage to property and public violence were opened and the situation is still being monitored by police.

“Preliminary investigations have revealed that the motive behind this situation is allegedly related to previous concerns of complaints against local mines,” Ngoepe explained.

The suspects are still unknown and no arrests have been made but Ngoepe says investigations continue.
