Cricket to don brand new blazer at FCHS
Vuselela Gumede has a passion for teaching and a love for cricket
POLOKWANE – With a passion for teaching and a love for cricket, teacher, cricket coach and the Chairperson of the Sport committee at Flora Park Comprehensive High School (FCHS), Vuselela Gumede plans to take cricket to a new level at school.
The 30-year-old life sciences and natural sciences teacher for Gr 12s spoke about his love for cricket, and how he plans to use his knowledge and skills about the sports to bring it back to life.
With a B.Sc degree and a certificate in education from the University of Limpopo, he told BONUS that apart from his passion for cricket he loves fermentation, brewing, hence he plans to further his studies in pharmaceutical research.
“Cricket was the only sport that I participated in when I was growing up. I enjoyed it so much and I was fortunate enough to represent the Vhembe district when I played for the provincial team and also played against Protea bowler Dale Steyn. My duties as a chairperson of the sport committee in the school includes organising sport matches and trips for the school as well as communicate with the parents with regards to the learners’s academic status and sport involvement,” said Gumede. He also explained that they stress and emphasise discipline in learners so that they can apply those skills an acknowledge themselves on the field and in the classroom. Because of his background as a lecturer at the University of Limpopo, Gumede also advises the Gr 12 learners on study methods and university life, he also advises the learners to study hard and prioritise education. “Education is the best tool that anyone can ever acquire, it is knowledge and no one can ever take that away from you when you have it. Cricket is not an easy sport, but practice makes perfect. The fundamentals are hard to grasp from the word go, but once grabbed, it is a fun sport,” he added.
