The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture hosted the Provincial Archives Week celebrations at Bela-Bela Multipurpose Centre on Tuesday.
The celebration offered community members an opportunity to learn about the importance of preserving the documented history in order to understand and appreciate its impact on their daily lives.
Onicca Moloi, MEC for Sport, Arts and Culture said one of the core objectives of the celebrations was to make information users, including school going children and communities members aware of the existence of Limpopo Provincial Archives, and its functions in preserving the province’s heritage. “We also wanted to introduce community members, youth and learners to the archives and records management career paths and opportunities available in the sector,” Moloi said.
The Provincial Archive is attached to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture and consists of three repositories at Giyani, Lebowakgomo and Makwarela.
