Exco worried about increase in missing girls

Police spokespersons so far refuted reports of an increase in human trafficking or girls having gone missing.

POLOKWANE – The Provincial Executive Council (Exco) has recently instructed the Limpopo justice, crime prevention, and security cluster to interrogate and report back in the next Exco meeting on the reported abduction of young girls in the province.

“It was reported the abduction of young girls, as reported in the media, was a source of concern,” Provincial Government Spokesperson, Phuti Seloba, said.

The Limpopo Exco session was shortened last week as the Premier, Stanley Mathabatha, had to attend a lunch with a soccer club to wish them well before their important match.

Seloba reported at a press conference last week the Economic Sector Cluster Programme of Action (POA) for the 2017/18 financial year was presented to the Exco meeting. This included issues comprising key programmes to be implemented in the 2017/18 financial year in support of national outcomes and key priorities such as:

• An efficient, competitive and responsive economic infrastructure network.

• Vibrant, equitable and sustainable rural communities contributing towards food security.

• Environmental assets and natural resources that are well protected and continually enhanced.

• Speeding up growth and transforming the economy to create decent work and sustainable livelihoods.

• The programme to build economic and social infrastructure.

• A comprehensive rural development strategy linked to land and agrarian reform.

The Exco also approved the Limpopo Provincial Back to Basics Action Plan to make municipalities more functional by ensuring they have and maintain basic tools, systems and processes to render services to communities in a sustainable manner.

The programme is anchored on the five pillars of service delivery, sound financial management, institutional and municipal administrative capacity, public participation, and good governance.

The Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA) will monitor the implementation of the action plan in with the various Back to Basics structures.
