Property agents from across the city joined forces recently to spend a day at a local shopping mall to sell pancakes in order to raise funds for the South African Woman’s Federation’s (SAVF) Martha Hofmeyr Old Age Home.
According to Suzette de Villiers, principal of SDV Properties, the various agents joined forces after realising the shortage of basic items experienced at the old age home. They decided to raise funds by baking pancakes and using the proceeds to buy items that are always in short supply at Martha Hofmeyr.
These items include soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, disposable nappies, nail files and hygiene products such as disinfectant and latex gloves.
According to De Villiers, the total amount they managed to raise was approximately R7 000 with the help of a generous donation from Craig Rosendorff of PanSolutions Polokwane and the assistance of Gerhard Kruger, manager of a local wholesaler in acquiring the items.
She further said the property agents helped because it gives them a sense of satisfaction to help older people. De Villiers describe how they had used about 60 litres of pancake batter during the sale.
Dawie Lee, SAVF Manager, said he was very grateful for the donation and that it would surely help them.
He further stated that toiletries and medical items such as bandages, gloves and disinfectant are constantly in short supply and that donations such as the one received not only helped the staff in their daily task but also lightened the SAVF’s financial burden in the day to day running of the facility.
