[INFOGRAPHIC] Water levels in local dams still low

The Department of Water and Sanitation is calling for residents to save water.

POLOKWANE – As pipe bursts increase in the city and more and more work needs to be done by the municipality.

The Department of Water and Sanitation(DWS) under the prevailing dam levels, still encourages water user to continue using water sparingly especially during this winter season as empirical evidence suggests that the dam levels continues to decline.

DWS Media Liaison Director, Sputnik Ratau said that the province’s average dam levels are at 78,0% this week, with a slight decline when compared to last week of 78,2 a considerable improvement compared to 59, 1% last year.

The Polokwane Water Supply Systems is at the same level of 64, 1% when compared to 64, 1% last week, an improvement compared to 51, 5% this time last year.

The Luvuvhu Water Supply Systems have a slight decline, sitting at 98, 9% this week compared to 99.0 last week.

“In relation to the provincial storage, the situation is still satisfying, but the province still needs to continue to implement water restrictions to allow for smooth recovery. Water is a scarce resource and catalytic towards economic development and it must therefore be conserved at all times,” Ratau said.
