A Cuppa that makes a difference
“While there’s Cuppa there’s hope, as your support helps fund care and support programmes provided by our CANSA Care Centres for cancer survivors,” says René Robberts, community mobiliser at CANSA Polokwane.
POLOKWANE – Cancer affects thousands of people and there are a number of campaigns to aid not only those diagnosed with the dreaded disease but also their families.
The Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) recently launched their #CuppaForCANSA campaign which runs from June to 31 October. It’s very simple, you can sign up to host, or attend a party to raise much-needed funds for cancer survivors.
“While there’s Cuppa there’s hope, as your support helps fund care and support programmes provided by our CANSA Care Centres for cancer survivors,” says René Robberts, community mobiliser at CANSA Polokwane.
“There are more than 30 care centres across South Africa, servicing more than 300 communities and we were able to help 92 000 cancer patients and their families during the previous financial year,” she continues.
The care centres offer a host of services, including cancer screening, counselling and support groups, medical equipment hire, wound care and stoma care management, cancer education through health material, health talks and exhibitions, CANSA Care Homes for patients receiving treatment far from home, and TLC Lodges for parents of children receiving treatment.
“Cansa is all about living a balanced lifestyle and making smart, healthy food choices to reduce the risk of getting cancer. This year we are encouraging Cuppa hosts to have a healthy options event, where healthy foods and recipes can be shared and enjoyed.”
To this end, CANSA will be running a ‘Healthy Choices’ Recipe Competition.
Cuppa hosts enter the competition by submitting their healthy recipes for cakes, cupcakes, tarts, etc. and stand a chance to win fabulous prizes.
To sign up as a host or a guest for a Cuppa, simply get in touch with your local CANSA Care Centre and indicate that you would like to host or attend a Cuppa event. Ask about the gorgeous mugs available for purchase at R55 each at care centres. These mugs are a great keepsake for the Cuppa season and a wonderful addition to any event.
