Attorney Tumi Mokwena remains in custody

Mokwena will remain in custody until his next court appearance next week.

UPDATE

POLOKWANE – Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that Mokwena appeared before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate Court on Friday, 23 June on four counts of attempted murder.

Ngoepe says he was remanded in custody until Tuesday, 27 June, for a formal bail application.


POLOKWANE – According to Police Spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, Mokwena was arrested, on four counts of attempted murder, in his offices in Polokwane on Thursday afternoon, 22 June.

“He will appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate Court this morning, 23 June at 09:00.”

Ngoepe says during the arrest, one firearm was recovered.

Mokwena was representing one of the parties present on the farm in what is believed to be a land dispute.

Review spoke to Kobus Swanepoel, the manager of Zebediela Citrus Farm who explained what happened.

“Mr Mokwena has six clients on the farm who he was representing. The clients asked him for one hour of their time.

He was already on the farm at the time. The group of workers accused Mr Mokwena of increasing the salaries of a few workers while neglecting the rest.

The workers then asked Mr Mokwena to leave the farm and he (Mokwena) then asked for security. During the altercation four people including a security guard were shot, one seriously wounded.

The wounded workers and the security guards were taken to hospital for medical treatment,” Swanepoel told Review
