Eight schools in and around Polokwane were announced as winners of the Cashbuild Art-at-Heart competition during the recent Cashbuild Polokwane Store Opening ceremony.
The competition required pupils to submit their best artwork to the store. The artwork was then judged and three winners from each school received gold, silver and bronze certificate in order of merit.
A Manager’s Choice award was also made and went to Moyahabo Masipa from Pietersburg English Medium Primary School (Pemps). Moyahabo received a stationery pack and a glass trophy.
Other schools that benefited from the competition were Pemps Grade-R, Maphudithomo Primary School, Ikageleng Makobe Primary School, Feke Primary School, Mapangula Primary School, Good Hope Primary School and Samaritan Children’s Home.
Nkateko Makhasa of Pemps and Imani Naledzani of Pemps Grade R both won gold certificates for their schools.
Ralwiwine Adams of Good Hope Primary had the best artwork in the school and Samaritan Children’s Home’s Khutso Seshoka was the winner.
Maphuditomo’s Mokgadi Mafete was the winner while Mpho Mashala’s artwork was chosen as best for Ikageleng Makobe.
Thidisho Mphalele from Feke Primary took home the honours while Teffy Sharlote from Mapangula Primary made her school proud.
Pemps Headmaster, Desiré Conradie, said it had been a wonderful opportunity to take part in and that the prize money received will be used for maintenance of school grounds.
Samaritan Children’s Home Coordinator Patricia Shibombo said the money they had won comes at at a time that the centre is going through a tough time financially. They intend upgrading the sewerage system and putting up a new fence.
Since the launch of the Art-at-Heart campaign, a Southern African Cashbuild initiative whereby donations are made to some of the region’s more needy schools, was launched fifteen years ago, Cashbuild has helped more than 2 500 schools in Southern Africa with more than R29 million worth of building materials.
