Coverland officially opens new plant in Polokwane

The largest concrete roof tile manufacturer in Southern Africa, Coverland, opened its newly upgraded manufacturing plant in the city last week.
Coverland officially entered the Polokwane market in September 2014 with a depot aimed at increasing services to customers. In 2015 the opportunity arose to buy the Technicrete roof tile plant and in March 2016 the transaction was approved by the Competition Authority and building on the improved plant started.
Hannelie van der Walt, Chief Executive Officer of Coverland, cut the ribbon to declare the upgraded plant open and said it was a proud moment in the company’s history to achieve a dream that started with a strategy meeting in 2012. “We wanted to be rated first in Africa when it comes to roofing and realised we would have to expand our footprint northwards,” she explained.
Van der Walt said she was most proud of the fact that Coverland staff handled the whole building project themselves. “Today we can look at this immaculate plant and say: we’ve done this.”
She singled out the project team, technical centre and every person involved in the building. Then she turned to the new plan supervisors, telling them that the plant was now in their hands and that she expected great things from the second largest Coverland manufacturing plant in Southern Africa.
Thanks to the upgraded tile plant, Coverland Polokwane’s offering includes six concrete tile profiles as well as a range of imported clay tiles, offering local consumers a much wider product choice. Coverland Polokwane’s products include a wide range of roofing components such as RadenShield Radiant Barriers, Undertile Membranes, flashing and dry ridging solutions.
Coverland is the only concrete roof tile manufacturer with an accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) architect’s presentation, audited and approved by the South African Institute of Architects.
