POLOKWANE – Call centre agents manning the police emergency number 10111, will be embarking on a strike today, the South African Police Union (Sapu) said.
The police said they have made contingency plans to ensure the service remains operational by asking uniform members to man the call centre.
Workers say they have drained all means with their employer in negotiating for a hike in their salary and have therefore been left with no choice but to strike.
Sapu said that while members “were protected”, a no-work no-pay policy could be implemented if the strike continues.
The 24-hour crime reporting 10111 call centre deals with complaints by the public.
