Education MEC Ishmael Kgetjepe appealed to communities to create a conducive environment that will enable Grade 12 learners to study as hard as possible and prepare for the National Senior Certificate examinations.
Kgetjepe said this on Monday before the 100 041 full-time and 27 555 part-time candidates in Limpopo could sit for the first papers in English First Language and English First Additional Language at 1 685 centres across the province on Tuesday.
Last week Grade 12 learners studying Computer Application Technology already wrote their first paper.
Kgetjepe urged candidates not to involve themselves in leakages, cheating or irregularities during examinations.“There is no substitute for hard work. You will thank yourselves for putting in so much effort. We wish you the best of luck.”
Premier Stan Mathabatha and the Executive Council (Exco) wished all matric learners the best in their final exams. Mathabatha said he hoped that most regions will join Vhembe in producing the best matric results. “The good thing is that there has been an absence of school protests, except for a few weeks in the areas of Vhembe and Mopani. These however were arrested in their earliest stages,” he stated and urged learners in Vuwani to make the province proud again.
Different political parties also wished learners good luck with the African National Congress in Limpopo encouraging matrics to study harder, stay focussed and not be distracted by anything within or outside their learning environment. The party indicated that it was their greatest hope that all matrics will pass with flying colours and raise the honour of Limpopo as province of excellence.
Democratic Alliance Provincial Leader Jacques Smalle stated that obtaining a matric certificate was a stepping stone to a future filled with opportunities. He said the party will keep a close eye on the exams by visiting schools to assess the department’s readiness and how they deal with glitches that might unfold during this crucial period to avoid leakages of papers.
The Congress of the People also wished all the learners best of luck with their exams. Cope President, Mosiuoa Lekota urged learners to do revision in order to secure a good pass rate. He was further quoted saying that matric is an important bridge towards a bright future.
