Employees of Bela-Bela Superspar during the festive period cleaned schools, crèches, old age homes, hospitals, sports grounds and churches in the Bela-Bela area as part of the shop’s community outreach programme after their store was burned down in September last year.
Store owner Carel Coetzee reportedly said following the fire the management sat down with the staff and explained that although they had lost the building, they could still serve the community. He said their staff has been doing community work at local non-governmental organisations in need of assistance and that they will continue to help the community until the new building is ready for trading, hopefully before Easter this year.
Jenny Foord, Group Advertising and Digital Manager at the Spar Group said investigations are underway into the cause of the fire.
