The School Motivational Drive is on a mission inspire learners

The team of young professionals along with a few celebrities embarked on a journey to influence and encourage high school learners.

POLOKWANE – As the School Motivational Drive (SMD) team aims to reach a total of 150 schools throughout the Limpopo province, they started their journey by accompanying the MEC of Education Ishmael Kgetjepe and Capricorn District Municipality Mayor and Councillor John Mpe to a number of schools within the province.

Makwena Kwenisto Makgakga (SMD Founder and Thobela FM DJ), Dineo Letsoalo (Actress and student at UJ), Edgar Rathelele (Communication Specialist and Artist Manager), Lebo Malatji (winner of various titles including Face of Mall of The North and now a student at UCT) and Boitumelo Gadaffi The Poet Manganyi.

SMD Founder and Thobela FM DJ Makwena Kwenisto Makgaka has communicated that his team is on a mission to inspire learners from a number of schools in the province.

The team of young professionals along with a few celebrities embarked on a journey to influence and encourage high school learners. “We mostly have matric learners through our School Motivational Drive visits, and our charismatic and energetic team is made of young professionals from diverse backgrounds and fields of study,” he explained.

According to Edgar Rathelele, a member of the SMD team, their common goal is to play a positive role in education, to encourage, motivate and inspire the youth and to also give hope to the hopeless. “We also teach learners to lead a positive and healthy lifestyle. Furthermore, we encourage learners to pursue their talents and show support to teachers and the school management team,” he explained. Rathelele holds a BA Degree in Communication Science and also works as a Communications Specialist and Artist Manager.

Makgaka also known as the ‘minister of young people’ states that SMD is the extension of his radio youth show and something that it truly dear to his heart. “When we visit schools, we discuss issues that affect young people on radio. I saw the need for SMD a year after I joined the SABC, to empower and help the community,” he added.

He further explained his pride on the improvement that they have noted in the schools that they visited in the previous years.

The SMD team has grown and in total, now consists of Boitumelo Gadaffi The Poet Manganyi, Lebo Malatji (winner of various titles including Face of Mall of The North and now a student at UCT), Gail Mokwatlo (Current Miss Limpopo and University of Limpopo student), Dineo Letsoalo (Actress and student at UJ), Edgar Rathelele (BA Communication Science graduate, Communication Specialist and Artist Manager) and a number of additional members.
