Polokwane Municipality has warned of a job scam currently doing the rounds and which may affect members of the public.
Communications and Marketing Manager of Polokwane Municipality, Matshidiso Mothapo in a media release informed that an unknown person places advertisements on social media, offering employment at the municipality. “The person identifies himself as Mr Tjia and claims that he works in the Human Resources Department of the municipality. Job seekers are requested to deposit amounts as high as R4 000 into a private account to facilitate the applications, Mothapo said.
“It is alleged that the perpetrator has placed the false job adverts on various job agencies’ internet sites. The municipality puts it on record that there are no jobs for sale at the municipality and that there is no one by the name of Mr Tjia who is attached to the municipality’s Human Resources Department,” Mothapo said.
Mothapo reiterated that the municipality advertises its vacancies in newspapers and the municipal website for suitable candidates to apply. “There are no monies to be paid to the municipality or to any official. Secondly, we have not advertised a Receptionist position as indicated in the false advert,” Mothapo confirmed.
Mothapo urged members of the public to report any suspicious activities related to municipal vacancies to the Police and to be vigilant when being promised any false jobs that they did not apply for.
