Search for man who drowned aborted due to hippos and crocs in the Mogol River

Limpopo's Search and Rescue Unit began searching for a 41-year-old man who drowned in the Mogol River on Sunday.

LIMPOPO – Police in Lephalale, in conjunction with other role players are still continuing with a search operation which began on Monday morning, 5 March, following a drowning incident.

According to police spokesperson, Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe, at around 17:00 on Sunday afternoon, 4 March, a 41-year-old man and his brother were crossing the Mogol River, outside Lephalale, when he drowned.

“In response to this incident, the Police’s Search and Rescue Unit began with the search operation but it was aborted due to a massive population of crocodiles and hippopotamus in the Mogol river,” he said.

The joint search operation will continue as soon as it is safe to do so and investigations continue too.
