POLOKWANE – The Shosholoza Meyl which promises to treat commuters to a pleasant experience from the moment they book their tickets, throughout the course of their journey until they disembark at their desired destination has re-introduced its main line passenger services between Johannesburg, Polokwane and Musina.
Mass transportation system operator Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) held its launch at the Polokwane Station on Thursday, 1 March in which African Cultural Leader Johan Willemse welcomed and addressed those in attendance with regards to the re-introduction of the services, also detailing the routes included in this occurrence.

“With the train services our taxes are definitely not going to waste, they will be in good use. This is not our train, it’s your train to utilise and make use of the services, even if you want to hire it for your personal use. We need you as much as you need us, so let’s work together and make this train a success,” he explained.
Polokwane Municipality ward 20 councillor Solomon Thilivhali Mashau was also granted an opportunity to address the attendees, in which he also mentioned the need for the station to remain tidy. “I would also like to say congratulations and a very well done to Prasa for their achievement thus far. Mashau also made a suggestion to Prasa, advising them to avoid conflict that can emerge during the hiring process by hiring individuals who live within close proximity of the numerous stops. “President Cyril Ramaphosa mentioned during the South African National Address (SONA) that that he’s calling on companies to create employment, so let’s take his words into action,” he added.
Those in attendance were also able to take a tour of the train with Ben Makinita (Shosholoza Meyl Marketing and Communications Specialist) and Daisy Daniel (Head of Shosholoza Meyl Communications and Marketing).
