Laerskool Ivypark’s senior athletes are having a great season thus far as is evident from the six medals, including two gold, they won at the Capricorn District Athletics meeting held at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium recently.
Although they participated in all events on the programme most medals were won in field items with the u.13s being particularly successful.
Vhulenda Mudau, u.13, won gold in the girls’ discus and her team mate Makoma Tjege, also u.13, in the high jump for girls. Silver medals went to Xihluke Mlondobozi, u.13, in the
1 200 m and Olubanzi Mlangeni in the u.12 long jump, both for girls.
Bronze medals were collected by Rati Mojapelo, u.13 in the shotput for boys and Owethu Mlangeni in the girls’ u.13 long jump.
Acting Principal Willem Opperman said their achievement was the result of hard work and commitment to the sporting code. “They were working hard prior the event and they reaped the rewards. We are extremely proud of them and wish all the best in their next events,” he said.
