The Police in Levhubu are investigating the death of a five-year-old learner who was allegedly electrocuted at Mutsha Primary School in Thondoni village last Wednesday.
Provincial Police Spokesperson Moatshe Ngoepe said that Vhuthuhawe Madala who was doing Grade R at the school was walking within the school premises near the classrooms when she was allegedly electrocuted by an electric wire and died instantly. Police investigations continue.
Department of Education spokesperson, Sam Makondo said a team of eight social workers dispatched to the school was still busy assisting the family, learners and educators with counselling to better cope and deal with the tragedy. When asked how a learner can be electrocuted by electrical cable on a school premises, Makondo said investigations will reveal the truth about the incident and added that internal investigations were continuing. In an earlier statement Makondo said the department was deeply saddened by this tragic incident and sent deepest heartfelt condolences to the family.
