Limpopo police encourage Easter holiday makers to prioritise safety

This comes ahead of the upcoming Easter weekend where thousands of church goers are expected in the province.

LIMPOPO – Residents of Limpopo, visitors and all church worshipers who will be coming from far are urged to be cautious and careful during the Easter holidays, says police spokesperson Lt Col Moatshe Ngoepe.

Provincial strategies to curb any crime are in place and Ngoepe says policemen and women are already working around the clock.

Holiday and church goers are encouraged to do the following:

– Motorists are urged to exercise patience, tolerance, consideration and respect towards one another.

– Do not drink and drive

– Travelers are requested to rest in safe places when they are fatigued.

– Church worshipers are advised to always monitor the whereabouts and safety of their children.

– Travelers are cautioned against opportunists who might rob, hijack or rape them during parties or entertaining activities.

– Home owners are encouraged to beef up security at their homes if they will be leaving them unoccupied to avoid burglaries.

– Shoppers are also advised not to leave valuables inside their vehicles and must ensure that windows are properly closed and their doors locked.

– Parents and guardians are warned not to neglect their children especially around public roads, rivers and dams

– Business owners must monitor patrons at all times and report any suspicious looking vehicles or persons immediately to avoid robberies.

– Avoid hitchhiking as this can lead to crimes like murder, robbery and rape.

– Do not leave minor children alone inside vehicles when shopping.

– Do not trust strangers trying to assist you at ATMs.

– Avoid opening your windows halfway or leaving your sunroof unattended.
