Learners have fun with engineering projects

Classwork was put aside when learners of Mitchell House gathered at various locations on the school grounds to join the four days’ Junior Engineers for Africa (Jefa) exercise that started last Monday.
Jefa is an annual event that was hosted at the school for the fifth time this year and is aimed at the promotion of interest in Engineering as a career for learners.
Learners from Grade 000 to Grade 9 as well as from the Enrichment Centre took part in the project on an individual basis and were tasked to build models using Lego blocks and following specific assembly instructions.
The different projects had names that included ‘Let’s build Waving William’ and ‘Harriet the hockey player’ for the junior learners. The models focused on pivot points, gears, wheels and axles. Senior learners built models illustrating interesting concepts which included the power of compressed air, gear ratios and levers.
